In mission- and business-critical operations, communications must work without exception. Users in the field need absolute confidence that Agnet will perform reliably, regardless of the situation or environment in which they are operating. For this reason, maintaining a strong and carefully managed hardware ecosystem around Agnet is essential. By ensuring seamless integration with third-party devices and accessories, Airbus enables users on the ground to rely on solutions that are always safe and secure.

Airbus’s certification service is designed to systematically test devices and accessories to ensure reliable performance in mission-critical environments. Through these certifications, we validate that manufacturers’ products operate seamlessly with Agnet solutions and meet the demanding standards required for professional use.

In highly demanding environments, selecting the right device is a matter of operational effectiveness and safety. Each device must be suited to the customer’s specific context and functional requirements, and it must support Agnet applications without compromise. Using certified hardware offers the assurance that the chosen accessories and devices will perform as expected in real-life scenarios.

Understanding customer needs

Airbus maintains a strong partnership ecosystem, which plays a key role in collaborating to fulfil precise customer requirements. We support our customers in choosing which hardware fits their needs best, taking into account everything from budget considerations to functional requirements, such as supported radio frequencies or the design and placement of physical controls.

Here's one example of how assessing practical requirements early ensures that the hardware is suitable for the environments and operational scenarios in which they will be used: First responders like firefighters need to wear gloves, requiring large, tactile buttons rather than relying solely on hands-free operation; equally they need to know that the device will continue to work in high temperature environments. Without taking these considerations into account, the firefighter could end up in a dangerous situation, unable to communicate to their team members.

Accessory ecosystem and integration

Once the appropriate device has been identified, attention turns to the supporting accessory ecosystem. Customers may require devices to integrate with remote speaker microphones (RSMs) that attach to the shoulder, headsets, or other specialised external accessories to facilitate seamless communication. Each accessory must meet functional and ergonomic requirements to ensure that the complete solution is effective and reliable in the field. This includes ensuring not only that the accessories work with Agnet, but that they also are well integrated with the other hardware being used in the whole solution ecosystem.

Validating device performance through comprehensive certification

Requests for certification are managed centrally by Airbus’s dedicated teams. Customers are also given access to our catalogues and certification roadmap, which highlights hardware that is, or is about to be, certified. If a requested product is not yet certified, we coordinate the certification process and schedule it within our roadmap.

The certification process is conducted entirely in Europe. All partner-provided products undergo comprehensive evaluation, covering both software and hardware. It is not limited to verifying application integration; we also test the product itself, ensuring that buttons operate correctly, screens display accurately, cameras function as intended, and audio peripherals perform reliably. This approach ensures that end users can trust the device to operate seamlessly when installed with Agnet applications.

Certification extends across all our latest Agnet and Agnet TETRA mobile applications. By certifying devices for specific applications, we guarantee that each device supports the functionalities unique to that client, maintaining consistent performance in mission-critical environments.

Ensuring end-user confidence through reliable hardware and support

The central goal of the certification process is to address the practical concerns of end users: when a device is deployed with Agnet, it must work reliably in their respective environments. During integration and testing, any issues that arise are carefully investigated. If a problem is identified on the Agnet application side, our development and testing teams work closely to resolve it. Where an issue originates with the device or accessory itself, we collaborate directly with the manufacturer through our established partner ecosystem. Technical teams from both sides communicate regularly to identify solutions and ensure that any problems are addressed before the device reaches the user.

Once all issues are resolved, the certification is finalised and made available to end users. To maintain reliability, certifications remain valid for multiple years, during which regression tests on new software or firmware updates are performed to confirm continued compatibility.

The certification process also accounts for new devices and accessories entering the market. We aim to receive these in advance whenever possible, allowing integration and testing before they are even commercially available. For hardware provided by end users that come from manufacturers outside our existing partner network, we establish new partnerships and integrate the devices into our certification service as much as possible. This ensures the catalogue remains flexible and responsive to evolving customer requirements.

Ultimately, the process provides end users with confidence: when they operate Agnet on a certified device or accessory, they can rely on it to perform as expected, regardless of the operational scenario.

If you would like to find out which devices and accessories are certified for use with Agnet, or discuss your specific operational requirements, our teams are ready to support you.

Our catalogues are managed regionally so please contact your local Airbus representative for detailed information on available certified devices and accessories. Alternatively, you can submit an enquiry through the online contact form and our team will get in touch with you.
